Utilize sempre a tag nofollow

60 Anos de James Bond: Parte 5 - From Russia With Love

James Bond 007 From Russia With Love Poster

Jackie Stewart: "A Racecar Is Like A Woman"

"It's very sensitive. It's very nervous. It's very highly strung. Sometimes it responds very nicely. Sometimes it responds very viciously. Sometimes, to get the best out of it, you have to coax it and almost caress it to do the things you want it to do. And even after you've done all these things and the car is doing exactly as you want it to do, it will immediately and with no warning change its mind and do something very suddenly and very abruptly."

The Lotus Elite is not delivered race-ready.

The Elite Is Not Delivered Race-Ready

Contrary to some delightfully flattering folk tales, the Elite is not delivered race-ready. This myth arises, no doubt, from the factory practice of road driving each new car. By the same token, these factory jaunts do have virtues and one should not be deceived by the fresh, virginal appearance of a new Elite.

Colin Chapman’s crews have a bit of a go with each new one. It’s rather an old world tradition. nothing beats an English country road for relieving any maidenly tensions that might inhibit a new machine, and wilful tendencies can be discovered and corrected before they become evil habits.

The Chapman suspension has been thoroughly scrunched and wiggled till it carries through fast corners on all fours with the tenacious grace one expects from a Lotus. The overhead cam Coventry Climax gets a thorough-going physical on the test bench even before it goes into the car, and on the road the Girling discs get a brisk exercising along with the clutch gearbox combo to assure a proper assortment of changes.

In short, a new Elite has had at least a taste of the fast heel and toe work that lies ahead in high speed touring or prize competition. To the owner we leave the details of final break-in and the selection of various racing accessories, plus painting on the number. A dandy job for a decorative crew member. And if you do come off a winner, there is a comfortable inside passenger seat to carry off your trophy.

$4,780 in 1958 is about $36,660 today. Damnit.

Ford challenges Ferrari on the track, agrees with him on motor oil: both pick Shell.

Ford challenges Ferrari on the track, agrees with him on motor oil: both pick Shell. The new Ford GT, first car ever entered in European races by a major American automobile manufacturer, aims to put an end to Enzo Ferrari’s world championship reign. Like Ferrari, Ford puts its faith exclusively in Shell oil. Below, they tell why: Says Ford’s Roy Luss, chief design engineer o the GT, "A lot of time and talent have gone into the building of this car. We want to be sure we’re protecting our investment with the best racecar oil we can buy—Shell oil." Says Enzo Ferrari: "My loyalty to Shell springs from my experience first as a racing driver, then as director of the Ferrari racing team, and finally as a car manufacturer. Thirteen world championships have been the results of the happy association with Shell." I’ll spare you the faux engineering sales-speak that follows, but you have to envy the unique position that Shell was in at the time: able to gain by either side winning the Ford-Ferrari wars.

60 Anos de James Bond: Parte 4 - Dr. No

James Bond Dr. No Poster

Q: (gesturing to the TV camera) "Eric, here is the American public..."

JOHN: "I'm John."

Q: "You're John?"

JOHN: "It was only a joke."

Q: "Well John, here is the American public. Forty million American viewers..."

JOHN: "It only looks like one man to me. Oh, it's the camera man."

Q: "What is your impression of the American public? You've been here for a while, now."

JOHN: "They are the wildest."

Q: "Why?"

JOHN: "I don't know. Tonight was, you know, marvelous. Ridiculous. Almost eight-thousand people all shouting at once, and we were trying to shout louder than them with microphones, and we still couldn't beat 'em."

Second clip from AP & CBS News, Plaza Hotel 2/10/1964

JOHN: "We got to see a doctor about that."

What happened to gravity?

What happened to gravity? The casual way a Corvette flattens out the steepest hill you’ve ever seen makes you believe for a minute that Newton’s law has been repealed. Not so; gravity is still operating. It’s just that you’ve never piloted anything with the fantastic push this jewel generates. But a Corvette makes everything so easy. Not just because its precision-balanced V8 can punch out more power-per-pound than any other engine in America. But because it answers a driver’s faintest hint so instantly and accurately. Because it stops flat, true and right NOW! Because its authentic sports car steering puts the car exactly where you want it, to the inch. If you never have sampled a genuine sports car it may be hard for you to imagine what all this can mean. But the remedy for that is as close as your phone. Call your Chevrolet dealer now for an appointment—and let him show you there really is a fourth dimension to driving! Corvette by Chevrolet. Chevrolet Division by General Motors, Detroit 2, Michigan

Alexander Gromow no Programa "Automóveis", TV Jovem Pan, canal 16 UHF (falida), 02/03/1993.
