Cyan Racing breaks two Nürburgring records with Lynk & Co

Cyan Racing, formerly named Polestar, has broken two Nürburgring lap records during development of the Lynk & Co 03 Cyan Concept, making it the fastest four-door car and the fastest front-wheel driven car in the world around the fearsome 21-kilometre Nordschleife circuit.

This also marks the first time that a Chinese manufacturer has claimed a record on the legendary German circuit with a mass production-based car.

The 528-hp Lynk & Co 03 Cyan Concept lapped the Nürburgring Nordschleife in 7 minutes and 20,143 seconds, averaging 170,4 km/h, with Thed Björk, the 2017 World Champion of touring car racing, behind the wheel.

No circuito de rua de Vila Real, que sedia a etapa de Portugal do WTCC, o piloto holandês Tom Coronel se aproximou da curva da Araucária, onde fica o trecho apelidado de "Joker Lap", e no momento da frenagem, perdeu repentinamente o controle do seu Chevrolet Cruze TC1, saiu da pista e bateu na lateral de uma ambulância.

Um bombeiro foi ferido levemente. Já o carro teve perda total, e Tom Coronel ficou a pé, não podendo participar do restante do final de semana.

Tentando ser o mais rápido, sendo o mais lento

No minuto final da classificação para a etapa da Áustria da temporada 2013 do World Touring Car Championship (WTCC), alguns pilotos tiraram o pé um pouco antes da entrada dos boxes, esperando que alguém passasse por eles, para, daí, voltar a acelerar, aproveitando o vácuo do piloto da frente.

Acontece que os pilotos que vinham atrás perceberam o truque, e também desaceleraram, formando um comboio que só se desfez a poucos segundos do fim da classificação, quando todos voltaram a acelerar e cruzaram a linha de chegada.

No entanto, a organização da prova não gostou nem um pouco desta atitude, e puniu nada menos que doze pilotos, entre eles, Alex MacDowall, Gabriele Tarquini, James Nash, Norbert Michelisz, Pepe Oriola, Tiago Monteiro, Robert Huff, Tom Chilton, Tom Coronel e Yvan Muller.
