Em 1994, a Renault queria comemorar os 10 anos do modelo Espace, uma minivan que até hoje é um sucesso de vendas na Europa. A equipe Williams de Fórmula 1 queria celebrar a recente dominância, ao conquistar de forma incontestável os títulos de pilotos e construtores de 1992 e 1993.

Então, ambos sentaram, pensaram e se perguntaram: por que não juntar as duas coisas e formar um híbrido digno de filmes de Frankestein ou puro darwinismo automotivo? Assim, nasceu a maluca combinação do Renault Espace com a mecânica do Williams FW15C, conhecida como Renault Espace F1.
