George Gaynes foi um ator nascido na Finlândia e radicado nos Estados Unidos. Seu nome de batismo é George Jongejans. Foi uma figura conhecida no cinema e na TV. Ficou mundialmente famoso no seriado "Punky, a Levada da Breca", como Artur Bicudo, o pai adotivo de Punky Brewster, e ao interpretar o Comandante Eric Lassard, na trilogia "Loucademia de Polícia".
George Gaynes era um talentoso cantor, e iniciou sua carreira na década de 1940, nos palcos da Itália e da França. Depois da Segunda Guerra Mundial, mudou-se para os Estados Unidos, onde sua carreira continuou a ascender na década de 1950. Gaynes trabalhou também em óperas, e sua estréia nos cinemas aconteceu em 1963.
Em 1982, Gaynes interpretou John Van Horn em "Tootsie". De 1984 a 1988, estrelou o sitcom "Punky Brewster", no papel de Henry Warnimont (Artur Bicudo), o pai adotivo de Punky, interpretada por Soleil Moon Frye. Em 1985 e 1986, também fez a dublagem de seu personagem no desenho animado.
Ainda no ano de 1984, Geroge Gaynes deu vida ao Comandante Eric Lassard na trilogia "Loucademia de Polícia", e atuou em todos os sete filmes.
Ele ainda fez parte do elenco de "O Quarteto Fantástico", em 1994. Seu último trabalho no cinema foi "Recém-Casados", de 2003.
