Plymouth Sport Suburban. The biggest reason for getting a wagon.

The biggest reason for getting a wagon.
When you think about it, a wagon is half can and half space. That's where Plymouth started when we designed the new Sport Suburban. Where we ended up is another thing. We didn't just build the can part. We made a luxury sedan. With wood-grained panelling. A fold-douse armrest. And an op-
tional rear window that washes it-self. That no other wagon in its class has. And we didn't just add space. Sport Suburban has more cubic feet of space than any wagon in its class. Because we placed it on the longest wheelbase of any wagon made. Now, anyone can create space.
Plymouth Sport Suburban
But ours is all usable. With no bumps to get or the may of load-ing and unloading. Also, we offer a roof rack. Not any roof rack. An adjustable one. There are plenty of other rea-sons for owning a Sport Suburban. But you should see them in per-son at your Plymouth dealer's. You'll find him a reasonable man.
And the beat goes on.

Beautiful Screamer. The Dodge Charger R/T Scat Pack.

American guts with more than a touch of Old World class. With something very un-Old World-like under its bonnet. 440 cubes worth of rippling muscle. Plus a suspension that knows its way through the esses, as if the car were on rails. Heavy-duty torsion bars, sway bar and shocks, plus an extra torque. taming leaf in the right rear spring. And heavy-duty brakes with 11-inch drums. And a whole batch of goodies, including foam-padded, vinyl-trimmed front buckets and disappearing headlights. Not to forget looks that nobody else has got around to yet. All that's standard, by the way. Every bit of it. But, alas, Charger R, T has some drawbacks. It's comfortable, quiet, tractable around town, and it has enough room for a couple of friends in the back. Oh, well, you can't have everything. STANDARD CHARGER R/T EQUIPMENT • 440-cid Magnum (4-bbl.) V8, 375 hp • Choice of 3-speed automatic or 4-speed manual • Dual Exhausts • HD suspension • HD shocks • HD brakes • Dodge Charger Rallye instrument panel • F70 x 14 Wide-Treads.
OPTIONAL • The Hemi-425 hp.

You don't really need Wide-Track... unless you drive a car. The Wide-Track Pontiac Tempest.

You don't really need Wide-Track... unless you drive a car. Oddly enough, most people don't ride on motorcycles too much, except for fun. And what's fun on a 'cycle isn't fun in a car—namely, leaning 'way over to help get around a turn. That's why we put Wide-Track on Tempest this year: to keep you stable and level when you turn. Tempest isn't the only car with Wide-Track, but we don't fret about the competition. We make the other one too. Wide-Track Pontiac Tempest

What's all this talk about unibody construction?

What's all this talk about unibody construction? The turtle is no bag of bolts. He put unitized body construction—one shell of an idea—on the road 25 million years ago... and whoever heard a turtle rattle? But it's the strength of his shell that keeps the old boy safe and serviceable year after year . . . and that's why mono-construction has been a feature of Morris cars since 1938, a turtle's age in the automotive field. Body shell, chassis and floor are welded into a single, immensely strong and lightweight unit, then completely immersed and rotated in an unexcelled rust-proofing process. But there the Morris' similarity to the turtle ends. Not just one, but an entire family ride comfortably in the silent shell. And that wide-awake engine gets around like a hare with insomnia. No other car on the road offers you so much for so little. Test drive the '1000' for the pleasure of its su-perb roadability and handling ease. Sedan, con-vertible, station wagon models are now available. MORRIS '1000' *Suggested retail price East Coast p.o.e. West Coast slightly higher. The Honda Accord Special Edition. So rare, it's destined to attract a sellout crowd. The 1968 Jaguar XKE. It always looks like next year's car.

The 1968 XKE really looks as if Jaguar designed it too soon. By not having to give the XKE a cosmetic overhaul every year, Jaguar engineers have more time to concentrate on engineering. The 1968 XKE is more powerful than any imported car selling for less than $10,000. Yet, for all its power, the XKE manages to cover 20 miles of turnpike on a gallon of gas. A111968 cars sold in the United States had to meet a long list of safety requirements. Jaguar en-gineering not only met these re-quirements, but exceeded them. The '68 XKE has radial ply tires, 4-wheel disc brakes, 4-wheel independent suspension, accu-rate 7-dial instrumentation, rack and pinion steering, (all included in the price). Yet the XKE above sells for $5,352. This price includes many lux-ury items you'll find in cars costing twice as much. All leather is prime hide. The bucket seats re-cline. The steering wheel adjusts. And the wire wheels are real. The XKE may look as though Jaguar designed it too soon. But that doesn't mean it's too soon for you to own one.

Most cars would be proud just to look this good. Or ride this good. Or handle this good. Or perform this good. But then, how can they when they don't have Action-Line Design. A rumble seat made a good car a little better. So does a rear door. The 1972 Ford Pinto Runabout.

A rumble seat made a good car a little better. So does a rear door. 1931 Model A Roadster. 1972 Pinto Runabout shown with optional white sidewall tires, rocker panel molding and accent group. When you make a solid, sensible, economical little car you don't change it. Except to make it better. Now that we're making that kind of car again, that's the only kind of change we're going to make. For example, we've made a Runabout model of the Ford Pinto. It has a rear door the basic Pinto doesn't have. And rear seats that fold down for extra cargo space that's five feet long. Everything else is the same. A gutsy little engine that gets the same economical kind of gas mileage as the little imports. A solid-as-a-rock four speed transmission. Sports car steering. A welded steel body with six coats of paint. Pinto is wide and stable, but not big. It's got plenty of leg and shoulder room, but it's barely 11/2 inches longer than the leading import. There you have it. The basic Pinto: a good little car. Our Pinto Runabout: a little better, good little car. See them at your Ford dealer's.

After 20 years we finally got it right. The Volkswagen Vanagon 1981.

Don't get us wrong we got it right 20 years ago. Even then our big Volkswagen was still the most revolutionary wagon of its time. it could carry about twice as much as the average &lotion wagon. On fy one small problem: Some people thought it wos funny iooking. Bock to the drawing boads. Over the years we came up with a modern, °era:Is/et body. We also mode the windows bigger. The doors bigger, The interior bigger. And more =bitable The dash more dashing. me engine more energetic. Arxi the suspension more sophisticated which led Carond Driver nisogozine to say: what we hove here is the Porsche 911 of vans. The vbnagon goes down the rood with a car like assurance that never exited in vehcles of this type before: In short, there isn't a nut or even a bolt that we haven't refined or redesigned since we produced our vintage '61 Bus. So, In every way, we think that cur '81 Vanagon is the most beautiful big Bus we've ever produced. Alas, one small problem: Some people still think it5 funny looking.
