The Grand Tour Season 2 Sneak Peek

The most economical thing about the Volkswagen Beetle is how long it's economical.

The most economical thing about a VW is how long it's economical.

Unless you've been marooned on a desert island, you probably know the Volkswagen has quite a reputation for being cheap to run. As a matter of fact, a lot of VW owners have turned into crashing bores by talking endlessly about it. It may be boring, but it's true. Almost everyone gets about 29 miles to a gallon of regular gas. (Some get a bit more or a bit less depending on where and how they drive.) It doesn't take much oil to keep a Volks-wagen going. And tires that go 40,000 miles per set is no special news. (They're built to carry almost twice the weight of the car.)

The secret of more tire wear: more tire. There aren't a lot of repairs and adjust-ments to put up with, either. Parts don't costa fortune because so many of them are interchangeable from one year to the next. And license platesand insurance generally cost less than for other cars.
This VW went 67,000 miles. And back.
All in all, a Volkswagen can save you a good $200 a year. Not bad. But the thing that really sets the VW apart from other cars is its low depreciation. The difference is staggering. The fact is, domestic cars depreciate 2 times as fast as a Volkswagen in only one year. Aone-year-old VWthat costabout $1,800* now is actually worth more than many year-old domestic cars that originally cost $2,200. Stick around; it gets worse. A 5-year-old Volkswagen could be sold for as much as $900 if it's in reasonably good shape. But that 5-year-old $2,200 car is now worth maybe $400-$500. Maybe. So it doesn't take an Einstein to figure out what an ugly hole depreciation can put in your pocket. Unless you buy a Volkswagen. And one Volkswagen may be the only one you'll ever have to buy. Say you buy a 1966 VW for $1,800.* And say you save that $200 on running it every year and put it in the bank. In 5 years or so, you can take that car (if it's in reasonable shape) together with the money you've saved to your local friendly Volkswagen dealer. •Dependieg on accessories, local Nixes and delivery charges.
Chances are you can drive out with o brand-new VW and not have to add a dime.

One of the nice things about owning it is selling it. If you don't like that idea, there's another alternative. Buy a '66 VW and just drive it. No one will stop you from keeping the same VW for as long as you like. (No one will know the difference anyway; we never change the way it looks.) So you can just go on saving all that nice money year after year and get rich at our expense. Maybe the VW really can't make a poor man rich. But neither can it make a rich man poor.

Volkswagen Golf GTI!

Volkswagen Golf GTI Wedding

Volkswagen Fastback. Our beauty. Will it spoil the Volkswagen image?

Volkswagen Fastback. Our beauty. Will it spoil the Volkswagen image? We never thought it would come to this. A beautiful Volkswagen. All these years we've been telling you about the ugly bug. And now, the snazzy Fastback sedan. But don't let its good looks fool you. When you really come down to it, it's still a Volkswagen. The engine is still in the reor and it's still air-cooled. It's just as easy to replace parts. (It still takes 10 bolts to bolt on a new fender.) And it's just as easy on gas as ony other Volkswagen. (The Fastback averages 27 miles on a gallon of gas. Which is pretty good fora car that cruises over 80 miles per hour.) While we were making this beauty beau-tiful, we were also making it bigger. It's got a trunk in the front where most cars have their motors. And a trunk in the back where most Volkswagens have their motors. (In case you're wondering where we put the motor, vvell, it's neatly tucked under-neath the trunk in the rear.) The Fastback's also got a little more room for passengers than the beetle. You pay a little more for it, too. ls2,148.1* Will a Volkswagen like this change our irnage? We doubt it. After all, it's only the world's most beautiful Volkswagen. Not the world's most beauti-ful car.

Veja Dennis Winterbottom salvar sua moto no Isle Of Man TT de forma cirúrgica e apavorante

We're showing you the front of this 1966 Plymouth Fury in case you've only been seeing the rear.
There's still the inside story.
The inside story goes something like this: 'I would like to see a '66 Plymouth Fury, please.' It ends with you owning a big, beautiful, low-price car with more standard equipment than you can shake a stick at. Like a padded instrument panel. Backup lights. An outside left rearview mirror. Variable-speed windshield wipers. And windshield washer. Engines: optional V-8s up to a new 440-cubic-incher with a 4-barrel carb and twin exhausts. Imagine: You, a Plymouth Fury owner. How's that for a happy ending? See your Plymouth Dealer soon.

Why do we put such big wheels on our little car?

Why do we put such big wheels on our little car?
There are some gripping reasons. It would be worth having big wheels on the VW just so we could have big tires. Why? Because big tires hold the rood better and last longer than little tires. But that's only half of it. We put those big wheels on the VW so that we could have bigger brakes, too. Obviously, the bigger the brakes the surer the stops.
The big wheels also let nice fresh air in to cool the brakes more quickly. Which means thot the VW's brakes always come back for more, no matter how hard you step on them. The VW's wheels are bigger than they have to be because we like to overdo things in a big way. (like the fourth coat of paint that you really don't need, either.) So when you drive away in your new VW,
you can expect about 40,000 miles on the original rubber. (Which is roughly twice what you can hope for on most other cars.) But you'll hove to go a long way to beat the record held by Mr. Robert Walton of Homestead, Florida. He chalked up 103,345 miles on his original set of 5 tires. Which is quite a stretch to go without getting tired.

Então, ele chutou a lateral deste veículo.

Quem sabe agora eles aprenderam a lição?
