Construído pela Mercedes-Benz em 1927, o Nürburgring Nordschleife foi o circuito de testes da marca. Mais tarde, tornou-se o autódromo do Grande Prêmio da Alemanha. Durante várias décadas, foi o maior desafio vivenciado por grandes pilotos, como Rudolf Caracciola, Juan Manuel Fangio, Stirling Moss, James Hunt, Niki Lauda e Jackie Stewart, que deu ao circuito o apelido "Green Hell".

A Polyphony Digital, produtora da série Gran Turismo, produziu este documentário, entitulado "The Ring", um tributo ao mais longo e desafiador circuito do mundo. Hoje, as 24 Horas de Nürburgring são o maior evento automobilístico realizado na pista de 25 quilômetros de extensão.
